Pineda de Mar is situated in the heart of the Costa del Maresme, at the southern end of the better known Costa Brava region, around 55 kilometres from the city Barcelona and 45 kilometres from Girona and its airport. Pineda de Mar has a resident population of around 21,000 and a municipal area of 10.35km2. Pineda de Mar is a popular holiday destination and features a good range of hotels and holiday rental accommodation and it is an excellent location for a family holiday having a long sandy beach and plenty of fine bars and restaurants. Pinada de Mar is located near to the Montnegre Natural Park and area which will appear to nature lovers, with its pine forests and wide variety of landscapes. Pineda de Mar has several historic buildings dating from the 17th to 19th centuries, and part of a Roman aqueduct which crossed the Pineda River.

The history of Pineda de Mar stretches back some 2,000 years when early settlements were made in the area by both Iberians and Romans. The ecomony of the town relied mostly on fishing and agriculture up until the 1950's and 1960's when the modern industry of tourism began to take over, today it is the areas main source of income.

Pineda de Mar is situated on the N-11 between Calella and Blanes and it can also be easily accessed from the C-32 motorway. The nearest airport is at Girona (45 kilometres), Barcelona airport is a little further at 60 km. Pineda de Mar can also be reached by railway from Girona.
