Costa Maresme Map: Above is an excellent map of the Costa Maresme (Costa del Maresme) a coastal region of Catalonia, Spain, within the province of Barcelona. Less well known than the neighbouring "Costas", the Costa Brava (to the north) and the Costa Dorada (to the south), the Costa Maresme still has some popular coastal resorts and some excellent sandy beaches. Among the best known resorts are Calella, Canet de Mar and Malgrat de Mar.
The Costa del Maresme is the name of the tourist region assigned to the coast of Barcelona to coincide with the coastline of the region of Maresme, from Montgat to the river La Tordera (at Blanes). A few kilometers north of Barcelona lies the long narrow coastal strip between the coastal mountain range, which protects it from winds from the north and the Mediterranean Sea. It is identified by long sandy beaches, attractive towns and centres of great seafaring tradition and tourism. Thanks to the mild climate, the beauty of the landscape and its ideal geographical location, residential and tourist areas of the first magnitude have developed. A significant new population has arrived in the area of Costa Maresme, originating from the city of Barcelona, and many have moved their primary residence to the area. The traditional agricultural activities, of the Costa Maresme are primarily focused on the cultivation of the grape vine, but also the growing the flowers, other industries include textiles and knitwear and of course fishing. Fishing is concentrated in Arenys de Mar area, the primary fishing port on the Costa del Maresme.
