Costa Brava Map - Zoomable road map of the Costa Brava region of north-eastern Spain . The Costa Brava was the first area to encourage mass tourism from places such as the UK and the tourism industry grew rapidly during the 1960's and 1970's.
Using the buttons on the top left you can 'zoom' and 'pan' to get a detailed road map of the Costa Brava and plan your visit to the region. You will see on the map some of the more popular towns and resorts such as Blanes, Roses, Palafrugell, Estartit, L'Escala, Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar, Calella de Palafrugell, Figueres, Cadaques, Empuriabrava and Palamos.
The Costa Brava region extends roughly from the French border in the north to Blanes in the south, a distance of some 200 kilometres, the area to the south towards Barcelona is often known as the Costa del Maresme although many consider this to be a part of the Costa Brava. The name Costa Brava means "Wild Coast", which may refer to the rugged coastline or to the windy conditions which can occur during the wintertime.
The Costa Brava region includes some very well known holiday resorts and there are some fine sandy beaches which are perfect for 4 million or so holidaymakers who visit each year, both the Spanish themselves and also Internatonal visitors (especially German, French and British).
The main airport for the region is located at Girona, a historical city with an interesting past and well worth a visit if you have the time, visitors to the southern Costa Brava resorts may arrive at Barcelona airport, and of course this city is also worth a visit.
