Estartit - Costa Brava - Spain  -

Formerly little more than a fishing harbour serving the nearby town of Torroella de Montgri, Estartit (or L'Estartit as it is properly known) has now developed into a busy holiday resort with superb beaches, good facilities and a vibrant nightlife scene.

Situated in the foothills of the Montgri Massif, Estartit is part of the Baix Empordą district of the province of Girona, Catalonia, it became a popular tourist destination during the 1960's and has grown considerably since then into a well loved seaside town. Attracted by its 5 kilometres of beaches, superb water sports facilities and bustling nightlife, holidaymakers arrive in their thousands, especially during the hot summer months. Offshore are the Medes Islands (Illes Medes), the only islands in the Catalonia region, a famous area for scuba diving and a protected area since 1990. The seven islands form one of the most important marine reserves in the Mediterranean.

A modern marina has developed alongside the old fishing harbour and provides a wonderful selection of water sports facilities including sailing, scuba diving, windsurfing, jet-skiing, water skiing. The beaches, one of the towns main attractions, stretch for miles and include Mas Pinell and Estartit beach, backed by a seafront promenade, out of town you will find many smaller beaches and coves which are well worth exploring.

Places to visit during a stay in Estartit include the 13th century castle at Torroella de Montgri, the Iberian settlement at Ullastret, the ancient city of Girona (40km), Barcelona (150km), Marine World south of Blanes (70km).
