El Arenal Mallorca Spain -
The seaside resort of El Arenal was one of Mallorca's first mass tourism destinations and for many would be considered to be too over-developed with numerous high-rise hotels and apartment blocks. However this type of resort appeals to many and it has its good points, including a fine sandy beach and a lively nightlife scene, it also benefits from one of the largest water parks in Europe, the renowned Aqualand which is situated near to El Arenal beach.
The beach is of course one of the main attractions and it is an excellent beach with fine white sand and a good range of facilities, there are watersports activities on offer and the beach is backed by a promenade lined with bars, shops and restaurants offering cuisine to suit all tastes.
El Arenal has a vibrant and lively nightlife scene and every night is party night, with dozens of pubs, bars and discos buzzing with activity, stay up late and catch up on some sleep the next day.
The Aqualand water park is open from May to late September and offers over 20 rides and slides including the Banzai, the Devil's Tail and the Grand Canyon, there are also areas for the younger children with Dragoland, the Mini Park and Polynesia. Prices for entry into Aqualand are as follows (2008): Adults €21.50, Children €13.50 (Kids under 4 entry free). Don't forget a trip into the nearby capital Palma de Mallorca, where you will find some wonderful tourist attractions including the magnificent cathedral.
El Arenal can be reached via the Ma-19 from Palma de Mallorca, it is about 10 kilometres from the airport, located to the south-east of Palma.
