The coastal resort for the ancient town of Pollensa (Pollença), Puerto Pollensa was developed in the last century as a classy seaside resort. Not spoiled by mass tourism, Puerto Pollensa is a genteel resort favoured by families. The old town of Pollensa is at the eastern end of the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains was founded in the 14th century by settlers from Alcudia, it has a number of places of historic interest including the Jesuit convent.
Located at the mouth of the attractive Bay of Pollensa, Puerto Pollensa is overlooked and sheltered by the nearby Tramuntana mountains, its old fishing harbour peppered with both colourful fishing craft and luxury yachts moored comfortably together.
Puerto Pollensa has a sizeable community of foreign residents and is particularly favoured by retired Brits who have chosen to see out their days in this attractive town. The promenade is lined with white-walled villas, and is a popular place to take an evening stroll, before settling down to a drink or a seafood meal in one of the harbourside restaurants.
Puerto Pollensa has an excellent beach which visitors can enjoy, with the usual range of facilities, there are also several small natural beaches nearby which are worth exploring. Don't expect a lively nightlife scene in Puerto Pollensa, most of the entertainment that is available is hotel based and is generally low key.
Puerto Pollensa can be reached by way of the MA-2220 from Alcudia or the MA-2200 from Pollensa, it is about 58km from the capital Palma de Mallorca and its airport.
