Puerto Pollensa is not a typical Mallorcan resort, it is not blighted by mass tourism, towering concrete hotel and apartment blocks or noisy British pubs and discos, it is a tranquil resort, a little upmarket and generally favoured by families and the older generation. The seafront hotels were mostly built before the concrete loving 1960's and still retain the charm of long past days such as those highlighted in Agatha Christie's short story Problem at Pollensa Bay, written in 1936, when the town was already a prime choice for middle-class Brits travelling abroad.
In the harbour at Puerto Pollensa, you can still see traditional Mallorcan fishing craft, sailing in as they have done for centuries, though they are rapidly being replaced by luxury yachts, belonging to the towns rich visitors.
Puerto Pollensa is located on the MA-2200 from Pollensa and the MA-2220 from Alcudia, it is around 58 kilometres from Palma de Mallorca and its Internatonal Airport.
