The second largest town in Mallorca is the industrial town of Manacor, still only a tenth of the size of the capital Palma, it is best known for the manufacture of artificial pearls, produced in their millions from glass beads, glazed with fish scales and resin. Manacor is also renowned for the production of furniture and the famous Mallorcan black porcelain. Manacor is a busy town but if you can get close to the historic centre, take a look at the 19th century Nostra Senyora dels Dolors church with its Arabic style minaret clock tower.
