One of the most pleasant beach resorts along the Algarve coastline of Portugal, Praia da Luz has a beautiful crescent shaped beach and a peaceful, laid back atmosphere, though the beach can get a little crowded during the busy summer months.

Praia da Luz ("Beach of Light") was originally just a small fishing village, with a history going back to the times of the Romans, when fish salting was carried out along the seafront. The arrival of tourism in the second half of the 20th century has resulted in some development of the town, though it has mostly not been spoilt by it.

The gently sloping, sandy beach, set in a pretty bay, carries 'Blue Flag' status for cleanliness, and lifeguards are generally in attendance during the busy summer season, Praia da Luz is well known for its water sports facilities which are impressive, among those catered for are sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving and water skiing. There are also a couple of golf courses within easy driving distance of the resort.

Praia da Luz is located about 10km west of Lagos and is about 90km from Faro and its airport.
