Location of the Algarve's airport, Faro has seen human habitation since prehistoric times. Founded as a settlement called Ossonoba by the Romans it was further developed by the Moors during the 8th to 13th centuries. Worth a visit is the old town which still has the traditional narrow, cobbled streets and the 13th century Faro Cathedral.
This Faro weather also applies to the nearby towns and resorts of Olhao, Tavira, Quarteira, Vilamoura, Albufeira, Gale, Amacao de Pera, Carvoeiro and Portimao. Faro has plenty of hotels and holiday rental accommodation, by road it can be accessed via the A-22 which runs into Spain's Costa de la Luz.
