El Campello - Costa Blanca - Spain - Around 13 km north of Alicante on the Costa Blanca, Spain, sits the small village of El Campello, its high position blesses it with spectacular views of the many sandy beaches along this part of the coastline.
There are remains of ancient temples which paid homage to the gods of the seas in long past times, and a watchtower built during the 16th Century to warn residents of attacks from Berber pirates who ravaged this coast.
Fishing has been mostly responsible for the economic survival of El Campello over the centuries and fishing is still important today although tourism has taken over as the main source of income.
El Campello has many fine sandy beaches and hidden coves which are well worth exploring, there is a tiny fishing harbour and, similar to Villajoyosa, some brightly painted cottages which were the homes of fishermen (painted so that they could recognise their houses from the sea).
El Campello enjoys a wonderful Mediterranean climate with fantastic hot summers and sunny mild winters, rainfall is scarce and occurs mostly during the winter months.
