Cabo Roig Spain - The Beach The Watchtower Cabo Roig Marina

Resorts of Spain - Cabo Roig

Cabo Roig Spain - If you are thinking of heading to Spain and are looking for a seaside holiday, then Cabo Roig on the Costa Blanca may be just the place for you. Located on the popular Orihuela Costa section of the Southern Costa Blanca, Spain, Cabo Roig is an exclusive and beautiful resort. There are plenty of great beaches to enjoy in Cabo Roig and also a good variety of bars and restaurants. The popularity of the resort is reflected in the large number of tourists who come back year after year to enjoy the sun, sand, sea and sangria.

One of the best known sights in Cabo Roig is the 16th century watchtower around which Cabo Roig primarily grew. The watchtower was one of many built along this coast to look out for approaching Berber pirates who frequently attacked villages along the coastline. The watchtower now looks down on the recently renovated marina with its 200 plus moorings.

The beaches in and around Cabo Roig are very clean and generally safe (perhaps with the exception of La Zenia beach which does have some dangerous spring currents). The two main beaches of Cabo Roig are Cala Capitan and Cala Caleta, both are well maintained and are extremely popular during the summer months. Cala Caleta has a popular beach bar which is an excellent place for a tapas snack and a cooling drink.

Whilst on a trip to Cabo Roig do not miss the cliff walk to La Zenia, this walk takes you along the back of Cala Caleta beach, above the marina and onwards to Cala Capitan and then to La Zenia beach. This is a very enjoyable walk and offers some exceptional views of the surrounding coastline, don’t forget to take your camera or you will miss some great photo opportunities. You will spot La Manga in the distance and on a clear day you can pick out the towering apartment blocks of this up and coming resort.

On a visit to Cabo Roig you can generally expect fine weather, this part of the Costa Blanca coastline enjoys its own micro-climate and is generally recognised as being one of the healthiest places in the world to live. Cabo Roig is blessed with in excess of 300 sunny days every year, and enjoys an average temperature of 20 degrees centigrade. Rainfall is scarce on the Costa Blanca, and mostly falls during the winter months, but don’t be surprised to see a heavy downfall in late August or early September, when, after many months of hot sunny weather, the odd thunderstorm is not unusual. Temperatures during the summer months can reach 40 degrees centigrade but usually Cabo Roig enjoys a cooling sea breeze.

The ever popular and improving Cabo Roig “strip” boasts a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants, with something to suit every taste. Visitors will find a lively nightlife particularly in the summer months. New commercial units are opening up every month and this can only be good for the holidaymaker, as ever increasing choices become available. There is now a street market held on Thursdays, with a bigger market on Fridays in Torrevieja and Saturdays in Playa Flamenca.

If you feel you want to explore a little further afield then there are lots of other things to do in and around Cabo Roig. A trip into the busy town of Torrevieja is well worth the effort as it has some fabulous facilities, in the summer months the fantastic Aquopolis (aqua splash park) is open with its scary water chutes and slides, the enormous Friday market is a phenomenon and is full of bargains, the lovely promenade is well worth a visit - enjoy a huge ice-cream concoction in one of its many seafront ice-cream parlours, and take the kids to the fun fair, also on the seafront and excellent value. You may also want to visit on of the historic cities in the region, Alicante, Cartagena and Elche are all worth a visit.

One of the Costa Blanca’s prime locations - Cabo Roig will surely not disappoint you. Book a flight and enjoy the sunshine sometime soon.

Very handy for both Murcia (San Javier) and Alicante airports, Cabo Roig is situated on the N-332 coastal road between Pilar de la Horadada and Torrevieja. It can also be easily accessed from the AP-7 motorway, junction 763 (La Zenia) or junction 768 (Dehesa de Campoamor).
