Tumbling down a hill towards the sea from a picturesque blue-domed church, the ancient Costa Blanca town of Altea is one of the least spoilt resorts along this often over developed coastline. The charming old town with its narrow winding streets and ancient white-walled houses was adopted by artists and craftsmen during the 1950's and became the artists capital of the region. Artisans still practise their crafts and sell their wares in the town today, and a number of craft markets are still held where their goods can be purchased.
Separated from the bustling resort of Benidorm by the mountains of the Sierra Helada, Altea's beach which is mostly made of shingle is backed by an attractive promenade, a popular place for an evening stroll on hot summers evenings, the promenade is lined with a variety of bars and restaurants. Altea has 2 harbours, the old fishing harbour and a newer sports harbour. The weather in Altea is some of the finest in Spain with hot summers and mild winters. Altea Map
