Menorca ("minor island") gets its name from its being smaller than its neighbour Mallorca (Majorca), but like its bigger brother, is a popular holiday destination, with a somewhat quieter reputation. Menorca is still the 2nd largest of the Balearic Islands and has one of the best natural harbours in the Mediterranean at Mao (Mahon). Menorca is a beautiful island with a wide range of landscapes ranging from steep rocky cliffs to pine laden hills, it has more beaches than both Ibiza and Mallorca combined and is thus a super place for a beach holiday. For culture seekers, Menorca is rich in megalithic structures, many of which date from 2000 to 1000 BC, during an era known as the Talayotic Period.
