Guatiza Lanzarote - Located in the north-east of Lanzarote, 9 km north of Tahiche, the small village of Guatiza is surrounded by large plantations of prickly pear, which are grown to harvest a small beetle which lives on the cactus plants, the insects are used in the production of cochineal.

Worth a visit in Guatiza is the Santa Margarita chapel dating from the 19th century and the Jardin de los Cactus, a cactus garden designed by César Manrique, which contains some 1,500 cacti species and over 10,000 specimens in all.

At the entrance to the gardens stands a huge 8 metre high spiky metal cactus designed by the man himself - César Manrique.
