A former fishing village, Puerto Mogan (Puerto de Mogán) has, in recent years, been developed as a holiday centre, whilst retaining its fishing village charm. The development has been mostly low-rise and tastefully done, making it less tacky than some neighbouring resorts such as Puerto Rico, though this is unlikely to last. The holiday areas are mostly along the waterfront, where the purpose built marina and resort complex lies next to the old fishing port. Puerto Mogan has a manmade beach composed of sand imported from Africa, and its seafront promenade is lined with bars and restaurants. A popular location for sport fishing, Puerto Mogan hosts the annual "Blue Marlin" angling competition. Puerto Mogan boasts a small yellow submarine from which visitors can view the rich marine life of the area.
Puerto Mogan can be reached via the GC-500 coast road from Puerto Rico or from the GC-200 from Mogan, it is around 60 kilometres from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
