A growing south coast resort in the municipality of Mogan, situated between the better known Maspalomas and Puerto Rico, Arguineguin has an excellent sandy beach and a decent range of facilties. One of the lesser known resorts of Gran Canaria Arguineguin is however well regarded for its seafood restaurants, evidence of the town's long fishing traditions, boats still operate from the port today. The name of the town comes from the Guanche for "quiet water".
A fertile gorge to the north of the town is known as the Barranco de Arguineguin, it is planted with tropical fruits such as passion fruit and papaya.
Arguineguin is more a home for the local population than a traditional holiday resort, though there are some hotels and holiday rental accommodation in the town, it is also popular with Norwegians, many of whom have purchased holiday homes in the town.
Arguineguin Market - Market day in Arguineguin is on Tuesdays, and it is reputed to be the largest street market on Gran Canaria.
Arguineguin is situated on the south coast of Gran Canaria between Maspalomas and Puerto Rico.
