Puerto Banus Spain -
A former Spanish fishing village, Puerto Banus was turned into luxury marina and shopping complex by local property developer José Banus, and opened in May 1970, aimed at the super-rich and famous, the grand opening was attended by such celebrities as film director Roman Polanski, heart specialist Dr Christian Barnard, porn king Hugh Heffner, the Aga Khan and even royalty in the form of Prince Ranier and Princess Grace of Monaco. An army of waiters attended some 125,000 guests who were entertained by a young Julio Iglesias.
The heart of Puerto Banus is the marina which has berths for some 915 craft including those belonging to some of the wealthiest people in the world ie the King of Saudi Arabia. Beside the marina you will find plenty of bars, shops and restaurants as well as the huge El Corte Ingles department store.
Puerto Banus has a number of fine sandy beaches including Artola Beach, Nueva Andalucia Beach, Rio Verde Beach and El Ancon Beach, it is also a popular area for water sports.
Puerto Banus is about 60 kilometres from Malaga and its airport and can be easily accessed from the A-7, the AP-7 or the N-340.
