
Aguilas Spain -
Located at the very southern end of the Costa Calida is the lovely town of Aguilas. Situated within the Murcia province of south-eastern Spain, Aguilas boasts about 28 km of Mediterranean coastline.
Aguilas has a long and distinguished history going back many centuries and it has been occupied by Greeks, Romans and Moors. There are a number of interesting and historical places to visit in and around Aguilas and these include the Castle de San Juan de las Aguilas, dating from the 18th Century and enjoying spectacular views of the town and surrounding coastline, Torre de Cope, a restored 16th Century watchtower, the fortified towers of Tebar and Chuecos, Frail Island, a small island which was originally occupied by the Romans who left evidence of their occupation., the Railway Monument an old locomotive originally built in Scotland and the Dovecote, an 18th Century tower which gave refuge to the inhabitants of Aguilas during frequent attacks on the town.
Aguilas is a fine area for outdoor activities such as hiking and mountain biking and is also popular for diving and water sports, the clear, warm Mediterranean waters providing the ideal environment.
