Sotogrande: The largest private development and resort in Andalucia, Sotogrande was created by Joseph McMicking, who purchased 5 adjoining farms in 1962, to pursue his dream to create the most luxurious Mediterranean residencial development.

Sotogrande has some of the most expensive houses in Spain and attracts the rich and famous to the area which has certainly lived up to Joseph's dream.

Now administered by NH Hotels, Sotogrande is situated 25 kilometres east of Gibraltar, in the San Roque municipality in the province of Cadiz, it covers an area of some eight square miles, lies beside the Rio Guadiaro, and is backed by the Sierra Almenara mountains.

Lying in a beautiful area, Sotogrande has been improved by expert landscaping and the planting of large numbers of palm trees and conifers. The area features five golf courses, artificial lakes and wide avenues.

Sotogrande Weather: The area enjoys a wonderful climate with the weather in Sotogrande being sunny and dry for most of the year.

Sotogrande benefits from some superb sporting facilities, with five golf courses including one of Spain's top courses the Valderrama Golf Club.

Sotogrande also has 2 polo fields, 2 tennis clubs, 2 beach clubs, a fine marina, a sailing club and a riding stables, plus lots of other facilities.

Sotogrande is also located in an area of great natural beauty with the estuary of the Rio Guadiaro being designated a protected National Park. This is a popular area for walkers and nature lovers, with marked out walkways being provided to some of the best areas for viewing local wildlife, especially migratory birds.

Sotogrande can easily be accessed from the A-7 (E-15) motorway (junctions 130, 132 and 133) between the towns of Estepona and San Roque. Sotogrande is around 104 kilometres from Malaga airport and 129 kilometres from Jerez airport.

The nearest airport is at Gibraltar which is around 25 kilometres away. The nearest railway station to Sotogrande is at San Roque (15 kilometres) and the nearest ferry port is at Gibraltar (25 kilometres).
