La Pineda Spain
Part of the municipal area of Vila-Seca, La Pineda is the coastal arm of the town, the entire municipality covers an area of about 21 square kilometres and has a resident population of around 20,000. La Pineda is situated beside the more famous resort of Salou, the biggest tourist centre on the Costa Dorada coastline of Catalonia in Spain.
Ideally located just a few minutes drive from Reus International Airport and well placed to enjoy the wonderful facilities of Salou and its renowned Port Aventura theme park, La Pineda also has its own attractions, not least its fine sandy beaches backed by a 2.4 kilometre palm lined promenade (Passeig de Pau Casals), its excellent range of bars and restaurants and its own Aquopolis Water Park.
La Pineda is much quieter and more laid back than its noisy neighbour, Salou, it still however attracts thousands of visitors each week during the summer months, and provides a good base for touring the region whilst not being located in a noisy mass tourism resort.
La Pineda of course enjoys a typical temperate Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters making it ideal for winter breaks when the town is much quieter.
Apart for the usual beach style holiday, there is plenty of culture to be found in the areas around La Pineda, in particular in the provincial capital Tarragona, where there are plenty of ancient Roman ruins and some extremely interesting museums. To the south of La Pineda and Salou you will find the old fishing town of Cambrils, here you can watch the local fishermen landing their daily catch and try out one of the renowned seafood restaurants for which the town is famous. If you prefer to get back to nature you can visit the La Sèquia Major natural park, a historical and protected area of irrigation channels.
Sports are also well catered for in the area with water sports, golf, cycling, hiking and horse riding among the most popular.
For nightlife many visitors head into nearby Salou but La Pineda has some nightlife of its own including the Pacha La Pineda nightclub, one of a successful chain
La Pineda Hotels: La Pineda has a decent choice of hotels, you can pick from the Golden Donaire Park Hotel La Pineda, the Hotel Hacienda La Pineda, the Estival Park Hotel La Pineda and the Palas Pineda Hotel.
La Pineda Markets: The main weekly market in La Pineda is held on Fridays, Salou's weekly market is on Mondays and Cambrils weekly market is on Wednesdays.
La Pineda Fiestas: Fiestas in La Pineda and Vila-Seca include the winter festival for Sant Antoni (January), the summer festivals San Jaime (La Pineda in July) and San Esteban (Vila-Seca in August), the Music Festival (Vila-Seca in May) and the Bethlehem Sand celebrations in La Pineda in December.
La Pineda Camping: There are plenty of camping facilities around La Pineda, the closest is Camping La Pineda de Salou site at Carretera de la Costa Tarragona a Salou, Km.5 - 43481 - La Pineda - Tarragona (0034 977 373 081).
La Pineda can be reached via the C-31b between Salou and Tarragona and can also be easily accessed from the A-7 motorway, it is close to the cities of Reus and Tarragona and is in fact only 12 kilometres from Reus airport, Barcelona is around 100 kilometres away.
