Sharm el Sheikh: Often nicknamed "The City of Peace", Sharm el Sheikh is a city situated on the Sinai Peninsular, lapped by the Red Sea in Egypt. It has a resident population of around 35,000, but of course attracts many thousands of additional visitors due to its popularity as a holiday resort. Formerly a significant military port, Sharm el Sheikh has only gained notoriety as a tourist destination since the mid 1980's as the amount of commercial shipping was reduced.
