Excellent photo of a camel taken at the popular Roi Safari Elche in 2006. It is possible to take a ride on the camel although beware he does bite! Camels are even toed ungulates belonging to the Camelus genus, they are mostly native to the desert areas of East Africa and Asia. Camels were first domesticated by humans about 3,500 years ago and they have an average life expectancy of about 50 years.
