The praying mantis (or mantid) is from the order Mantodea and is so called because of its prayer-like stance. Found in most parts of the world the praying mantis (not preying mantis) is able to change colour to adapt to its surroundings, a notorious carniverous insect it feeds mostly on spiders, flies, crickets and moths, though they have been known to take larger prey such as lizards and humming birds.
