Costa del Azahar Towns - Onda

Onda - The inland town of Onda, located west of Castellon de la Plana in the Valencia region of Spain, has a population of around 25,000 and is home to a thriving ceramics industry. Founded by the Moors during the Arab occupation of Spain (8th to 13th centuries), Onda is overlooked by a ruined Moorish castle, known in those ancient times as "the Castle of the 300 Towers".

The old town of Onda, transports visitors back to medieval times, with its narrow winding streets and alleys. Explore and you will find the porticoed plaza of El Almudin, the 13th century El Sangre church (built by the Knights Templar), the Sant Pere Gateway, and several other interesting churches and buildings. Among places to visit in Onda is the fabulous El Carmen Natural Sciences Museum (Museo de Ciencias Naturales El Carmen), with its thousands of exhibits of wildlife, insects, butterflies, shells and fossils, not just from Spain, but from all over the world, big cats from Africa, marsupials from Australia, even creatures from Polar regions, all expertly preserved, stuffed and displayed by the monks of a Carmelite monastery, by whom the museum was founded. Also worth a visit is the Valencian Ceramics Museum.

Onda Fiestas - Among the fiestas celebrated in Onda are the Virgen del Carmen (July), the Santisimo Salvador (August), the Fira de Sant Miguel (September), and the Fiesta Patronales in October.

Onda is situated inland of the Costa del Azahar coastline, about 17 kilometres to the west of Castellon de la Plana, and 76 kilometres from Valencia, it can be accessed via the CV-20.
