Plasencia Extremadura: A city of some 42,000 people, located in the Cáceres province, Plasencia is located in the Extremadura region of Western Spain. Rising above the Rio Jerte, the walls of the town remind visitors that this was once a military fortress, it held an important strategic position on the Ruta de la Plata.

Plasencia today has 2 cathedrals, the Romanesque Catedral Vieja (Old Cathedral) and the sixteenth century Catedral Nueva (New Cathedral). Plasencia also has an intersting textile museum, the Museo Etnografico y Textil.

One of Plasencia's biggest attractions is its street market, which takes place on Tuesdays and has been held since the 12th century, it attracts visitors from far and wide. Also look out for its Roman Aqueduct which displays just how old this place is.

Fiestas in Plasencia include the June Fair and the Martes Mayor in August.
