Javea became increasingly popular during the 1970's when wealthy north Europeans began to buy property in the area. Javea has a fine old port which dates from the 15th Century, and was once important for the export of raisins.
Javea's popular beach, Playa de Arenal is backed by a wide promenade, lined with restaurants and bars, this is also the location for an evening craft market during the busy summer season.
