A popular holiday destination, Paphos is the mythical birthplace of the Greek goddess Aphrodite, and in Greco-Roman times was the capital of Cyprus, among its historic remains is the Roman Governor's Palace which is especially renowned for its splendid mosaics.
These days Paphos has a population of around 50,000 and is a popular tourist resort with a charming fishing harbour and a good range of facilities, it is divided into 2 main areas, the residiential district, called Ktima and the area around the medieval port, Kato Pafos, which is where the hotels and holiday accommodation are located. Paphos has plenty of attractions including Paphos Castle, the Tombs of the Kings and the House of Dionysos.
