Bouganvillia is a genus of plants named after a French admiral Louis de Bouganville, who discovered the plant whilst travelling in Brazil, South America. Now a popular ornamental plant wherever there is a warm climate, bouganvillia is a thorny, climbing plant giving a dazzling display of colour. The main colour of the Bouganvillia comes from papery bracts which surround the rather insignificant flower. Bouganvillia is fast growing and will flower all year round in a suitable climate.
